Breads

Ya Basic – Standard Sourdough – $7
A basic bread that can go in any direction. Perfect as a foundation for Nutella, or creamy brie, dunked into soup or swiping up sauce. Partly whole wheat, a crackly exterior and relatively soft interior, but sturdy enough to contain a drippy jam.

Cheddar & Mustard – $10
Take Ya Basic & make it sophisticated pizza. Why does cheddar and dijon mustard, with a hint of thyme, taste so good together? Try it and let me know if you have a theory. Fantastic with ham.

Jalapeño Cheddar – $10
Take cheddar and give it pizzazz. Jalapeño adds a sweet, grassy heat—not too spicy for my kids to wolf it down. With cheese and a veggie, this bread is practically a complete meal.

Olive Oil Rosemary – $10
The bread you want for all your ‘south of France’ themed summer picnics. Optional add-in for those who want to double down on the briny joy: chopped olives.

Focaccia – Olive Oil & Sea Salt / Za’atar $15 – 8×8; $25 – 9×11 (comes as a single block)
Chewy, fluffy, salty, life changing…bring this to any gathering to be voted most likely to be re-invited. Or eat it all yourself, I won’t tell. This stuff is best the day its made, so let’s plan accordingly to make all your Italian dreams come true.

Sourdough Brioche – $18
I can’t think of a better use of butter. Perfect plain, with jam & tea, as a sandwich. If you have guests or kids you might need two, to make sure it doesn’t get wolfed down before you get to save a couple slices.

Cakes

Seasonal Olive Oil Cake
Citrus & Cardamom olive oil cake layered & glazed with seasonal fruit-infused goodness. Below, Strawberry Rhubarb Rose Compote, pretty in pink with a Rhubarb glaze. Two layer cake with compote filling and glaze: $30 – 6″, $45 – 9″ Cupcakes + to go compote: Six for $15, Twelve for $25.

All The Feels Chocolate Cake
Fudgy, moist, a rather grown-up take on a chocolate cake with a simple but elegant dusting of powdered sugar. This is the perfect little cake to say “I’m sorry I messed up,” “I’m sorry, you deserve more than that jerk,” or “Congrats on being amazing.” Or anything else you need cake for. Thick single layer cake $20 – 6″, $30 – 9″ Option for vanilla buttercream frosting +$5.

Birthday JoyPrices Vary
Layer cake with simple frosting, for a birthday cake you’ll actually want to eat. Flavors of your choice (I can make suggestions). Pictured below, rectangular chocolate with vanilla whipped cream for a crowd and 9-inch, 3 layers strawberry buttercream.

Low Key Wedding-esque CakePrices Vary
Celebrate a special day (of any kind) your way, with a one or two layer cake, iced naked or in full, flavors of your choice, decorated to suit your style. Pictured below, space themed naked chocolate cake with tahini buttercream (6-inch, 2 layers + 9-inch, 2layers) and smooth frosted 9-inch cake, 2 layers) with seasonal flowers.

Who is Pretty Good Bread?

My name is Jeannie Rose Barksdale, and I bake for the joy of it. I am not a professional but I reliably create delicious things and love nourishing people, body and soul. There’s a running joke that you don’t leave my house without a freshly baked carb in hand. It’s mostly true. I don’t want to make a living out of baking, but I love to set a crowded table for a feast. This “pop up” bakery is mostly a chance to put pretty good bread on the tables of more people. You can reach me at prettygoodbreaddc@gmail.com & follow on instagram @prettygoodbreaddc.

I periodically post baking stories on Tangible blog under #prettygoodbread.
